Energy planning
Generate more, use energy more efficiently, and plan for what comes next.
Solar and battery solutions can help homeowners and businesses use more of their own generation. The right approach starts with a site-specific assessment of the roof, electrical system, usage and future needs.
Government support may be available for eligible systems. The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program operates through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme; eligibility and the level of support depend on the current rules and the actual system.
On 15 December 2025, DCCEEW reported more than 160,000 battery installations supported in the program’s first six months and an expansion from initial estimated funding of $2.3 billion to an estimated $7.2 billion over four years. Read the dated update (opens in a new tab).

Energy, connected

Switch between day and night to see how solar, a home battery and the grid can share the load. This is a simplified illustration; every system is designed around its site.
During the day
- Solar panels generate electricity, and your home uses it first.
- Surplus solar can charge a home battery, where one is installed.
- Any remaining surplus may be exported to the grid, subject to your network and retailer arrangements.
- An EV can be scheduled to charge while solar is generating.
At night
- Solar stops generating after sunset.
- A battery, where installed, can supply stored energy to your home.
- The grid supplies whatever the battery does not and remains available when needed.
- Many EVs charge overnight from the grid or, where suitable, from stored energy.
Backup during a power outage depends on the battery, inverter and how the system is designed and installed. Not every battery system provides backup power.
Before a proposal
What a site assessment looks at

Good recommendations start with the details. These are the things typically reviewed before a proposal is prepared.
- Roof orientation, pitch, shading and usable space
- Switchboard condition and capacity for new circuits
- How and when your property uses energy
- Safe locations for a battery or EV charger
- Your plans, such as a new EV or a renovation
Quick answers
Questions, answered.
Short answers to common questions. Have something specific in mind? Ask us directly.
See all questionsIs solar or a battery suitable for my property?
It depends on your roof, shading, energy use and plans. A short conversation and a few details are usually enough to tell whether it is worth a closer look.
I already have solar. Can you work with my existing system?
Often, yes. Adding a battery or EV charger to an existing system depends on your inverter, switchboard and system age, which are checked before anything is recommended.
Do you need to visit my site?
Usually. A site assessment confirms roof, switchboard and installation details, so any proposal is based on your property rather than assumptions. What is involved is explained before one is arranged.
